The Standalone .pkg writes to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/ . This is sacred ground. Because of macOS's security changes (Post-Catalina), the Standalone installer is the only reliable way to ensure the driver isn't quarantined. The web installer sometimes fails to set the correct com.apple.quarantine attributes on the binary. The Standalone bypasses this by using the native installer utility.
