This paper describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of a low-cost retro-gaming appliance built with Batocera Linux on a 256 GB storage device. Goals were to maximize game compatibility, minimize setup complexity, and evaluate performance across common emulators. We detail hardware selection, Batocera configuration, storage layout and legal/ethical considerations for ROM management, and performance benchmarking methodology. Results show that a properly configured 256 GB image supports thousands of ROMs across multiple platforms with acceptable load times and near-native emulation performance on mid-range ARM and x86 hardware. We discuss trade-offs between compression, filesystem choice, and update/backup strategies, and provide best-practice guidelines for hobbyists and researchers. : These images often feature higher-end systems like
