The movie tells the story of Professor Ueno, a Japanese professor who adopts a stray dog, Hachiko, in 1924. Hachiko quickly becomes Ueno's loyal companion and waits for him at the train station every day to greet him on his return from work. However, in 1925, tragedy strikes when Professor Ueno suffers a cerebral hemorrhage while at work and fails to return home. Despite his owner's passing, Hachiko continues to wait for him at the train station, day after day, for the next nine years, nine months, and 15 days.
