It works by performing read-refresh-read cycles. It reads the data, checks it, and if the drive’s internal error correction is working overtime, it forces a "refresh" of that data. This prevents "bit rot" and revitalizes the drive's performance without the heavy wear of a traditional write-erase cycle.
