The second, and more significant, barrier is the issue of translation and copyright. The most complete modern translation of the Babylonian Talmud into a European language is the English edition by Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz (later completed and republished by Koren Publishers) and the ArtScroll Schottenstein edition. These are monumental, decades-long scholarly enterprises involving dozens of experts, editors, and publishers. They are protected by copyright, and for good reason: the intellectual and financial investment required to produce them is enormous. A freely circulating “PDF completo” would almost certainly be an unauthorized scan of these protected works, constituting piracy. While smaller, partial translations of the Mishnah or select tractates exist in Spanish (such as those published by Editorial Kairós or Ediciones Obelisco), a complete, authorized, and up-to-date Spanish translation of the entire Babylonian Talmud remains a formidable, and as yet unfulfilled, scholarly project.
